With the ambition to become a legal specialist, I started my career about 9 years ago. First as a collection specialist, then a lawyer in the aviation and leisure industry, and subsequently as legal counsel for an international Dutch maritime contractor and an American building materials manufacturer. Little did I know at the time that I would become an all-round counsel, confident in many areas rather than just a handfull.
Over the years, I have gained invaluable international experience in areas such as commercial contracting, dispute resolution, corporate governance, data protection & privacy, M&A, compliance, employment, IP and marketing and advertising. I had responsibility for European legal affairs, resolved many disputes, served as corporate secretary for different European companies, ensured GDPR readiness for an international company (and got myself CIPP/E certified in the process) and lead the legal integration of a company acquired for 473M.
I praise myself lucky to have been part of a European management team and have worked with management, directors and a lot of smart people in different departments including commercial, finance, tax and intellectual property. Without a doubt, this greatly contributed to my understanding of business drivers and risks and increased my business savviness.
This only tells half the story though.
Being naturally curious, my interests go beyond legal and as such I am always on the look-out to expand my horizon including in the fields of economics and markets, politics, investing and personal health. Not unsurprisingly, I therefore enjoy working out and reading books and I almost religiously keep track of world dynamics.
